Hmm... 35d Purchased, now reading HPFP failures. Replace pre-failure?. Time bomb?

So the wife and I were interested in upgrading from the E70 35d to an F15 35d for awhile now. We've loved the E70 35d even after trans failure (e-clutch bushing/bearing) and had no intention of immediately upgrading. Until about 3 days ago when I found a '15 35d with almost all the goodies on it. Reasonable price as well @ $23.5k from a small dealer. Mileage is meh @ 84.5k. Crappy dealer owned by foreign descent, I'll let you guess where they hail from. But the car checked out with a PPI so we moved forward.

So now that the car is ours technically (still at dealer awaiting pickup as we are out of town, but paid for) I am researching the platform, upgrades, retrofits, etc. Usual car guy stuff. And I see a bunch of threads across the different forums referencing HPFP failures. I see some for the E70's M57 as well but more for the N57s. My question; should I preemptively replace the HPFP? Is it a ticking time bomb? Am I needlessly concerned and these are "isolated" incidents? BMW blames the failures on bad fuel almost exclusively from what I read. Which tells me, there is likely a design flaw and it's convenient for them to pawn it off on the gas station, refinery, or worse the owner of the vehicle for putting in the "bad" diesel.

Haha, frantically googling and searching continues. Ran across this from NHTSA's site regarding a warranty extension of the HPFP to 120,000 miles or 10 years. *phew* Huge sigh of relief over here though strangely I don't see it referenced on any other forums.

I suppose we'll drive it to almost 120,000 miles and then replace the pump. Any failure before then would be covered if I read the bulletin correctly. It is SI B01 14 17.

Thanks Happy! We're excited about getting it. Going to have Mouse pick it up and babysit it for us as it was purchased from a small dealer in Cypress. Will post a thread for the car itself her in a bit. First one we've seen optioned this heavily. Although not a "fully" optioned example (I'm not sure anyone ordered that $100k+ build), it's pretty good.

Most of my fears have been allayed with the HPFP but I wish there was more information regarding that SIB on the forums (here and elsewhere).

I'll be up there this weekend wrenching on the wagon. I had to leave it last when we picked up the F15 because at 194k miles the radiator decided it was time to start seeping. What are you gonna do?

Thanks. I only have dealer pics right now. Poor thing needs a paint correction badly. Previous owner maintained it according to the records, but was definitely not an enthusiast.

See here for pics: https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...-good-e70.html
