Unable to measure oil level F15 X5 N55

How does one diagnose why 2014 X5 N55 will not complete an oil level measurement?

When I click on option for oil level - it shows "ok"

When I clock on option to MEASURE oil level - screen shows 1%, 2%, etc up until it hits 15% and returns to screen that states car must be at operating temperature and on level surface.

Engine IS AT operating temperature and I am on level service. I driver around for a while and still get the same message.

Just a couple of weeks ago I got warning that oil level was down and to add a quart so I ASSUME the oil level gauge is working. Visual inspection of the sensor looks ok.

Verify frustrating that BMW just won't allow you to read the gauge without going through some kind of 1%, 2%, etc. - JUST GIVE ME THE LEVEL.

I may just purchase new sensor but that is a $250 solution that may not solve the proglem.

Any thoughts?

How do I determine why the level check is not working?

Is there a PID available that my reader (ThinkTool Pro) can read either the voltage and/or level percentage (I did not see PID option under ECM)???

After I added my quart of oil, I developed a leak so that is why I want this level thing to work. Not sure if gauge is bad and telling me to do do bad things to my car.

I have about 85k miles on this and I have seen many posts state that level gauge go bad wither causing leak or not measuring properly. I still can not believe BMW removed the dipstick.

I installed a new oil level sensor today and it did NOT solve my problem. I am unable to get an oil level reading.

Here is the concern, when I drained out the oil (needed for sensor replacement), I was 2 quarts low!!! So much for this sensor working.

Anybody have any ideas on what to check? This is very frustrating
