Did anyone else notice the different (reversed) exhaust tailpipes in the last two pics above??

Yes, but the height is more on one than the other.

Good catch. Maybe BMW will finally do something to distinguish the X5 diesel from the gas models. The little "35d" on the side is hard to spot, and perhaps the tailpipe shape could be different to indicate the type of fuel.

I thought it was mentioned that it was m-sport vs regular.

That is correct. Both 8-cyl. The bigger one is M-sport.
