Wow, can't believe 15-yr later I can say, "I think I willl miss Chris Bangle". Maybe Adrian Von Hoydonk, just don't get SUV design being an European. Culture is big influence in ID design.

I think I figured out what is wrong with it... The overall profile is much more like the X3 - which I always thought looked like a shoe.

I think the back of the new design looks a little bit like my Honda Odyssey:

Reminds me of the E53. Which I have. And which I like. Never did cotton to the E70 in anything but M or M sport trim.

Personally I dont think there is enough appeal in the design..
For me to love a car you need to look at it from more than just one angle and be able to say "I really like the look of this car" and put a smile on your face!

I remember when I had an e39 i'd walk up to it and think it was such a timeless design whether you talk up to it from the front, rear , or side..

If you have to hunt around the car and look for your hero view then to me it really isn't so pretty.. to me I can hardly find a view of the exterior that i "love"

Interior on the other hand is completely different. I love it!

I agree, there's too many angles where this latest design looks very awkward, un-proportioned, etc. The e53 had the best proportions and lines, the e70 is second with some stronger lines in the front, but too large in the back. This one has a bad nose, big 'full diaper' tail, and it's lost the strong muscular lines. The interior is a different story; it's become more refined.

I have to disagree. The nav screen looks like an afterthought and why did BMW have to get rid of the stealth glovebox?? Anyone who has ever been in my E70 has always been impressed with the glove box design. It's stuff like that that makes the biggest impressions. Especially since it has a decent amount of space and "flows well" with the dashboard

Also, the new idrive touch controller is a PITA to use and operate. Even the BMW advisor couldn't properly demo it for me without getting frustrated

I'll be more than content with my E70. I am really liking the OEM LED angel eyes. They look very sharp on all of the BMW vehicles compared to the first generation versions.
