2014 X5 3.5d My Baby
Took delivery of a 2014 X5d no-line on Valentine's Day. Decided on the no-line due to the clean lines and the black contrast as well as a somewhat utilitarian look. I did not like the wheels and trim of the X-Line nor the silver panels in rocker panels of the Luxury Line. When I took delivery of my no-line I certainly did not like the chrome trim around the windows. On the BMW website it showed the X5d with shadowline window treatments. I altered and/or added what I thought were the major cosmetic offenders. Auto Obsessionz in Camarillo, Ca wrapped the chrome window treatment with black semi-gloss vinyl; this resulted in a significant improvement. Also found some 19" 467M-Sport wheels from an individual who had purchased a new X5 M-Sport who had changed to 21" wheels and sold the wheels and tires for a great price. The new 19" wheels look so much bolder. I've found many of the 19" 467M wheels available on the internet. The tpms worked fine and all the offsets were perfect. I'm now a Happy Camper.

Very nice! I was thinking gettin a new X for my collection but ended up ordering a Ford Raptor, which is gettin an ecoboost swap, and a dodge challenger srt8. Though lookin at yours i just may get one, my girlfriend really likes em so maybe as a birthday gift. How do they ride/handle?

Handles and rides great. No complaints. The diesel has loads of torque and is a blast todrive. Climbs hills like a mountain goat.

Hello...
I've been looking at a Diesel X5 in the new model, but I'm curious to how they are holding up and what kind of real world mileage people are getting from them. With that said, what issues have you seen with these diesel's? I'm a LONG time Ford truck owner (currently have a '13 SVT Raptor) but prior to this I've had numerous plow/tow trucks (mostly F250 or F350's) with the diesel's going all the way back to my first diesel in 1995. My last one was a 2011 F250 with the 6.4L Diesel and the power that they are putting in these trucks is just crazy, and with that I saw that they upped it again for 2015! Thanks! Quote:

Im not a fan of these new diesels, ive had many coming into the shop with issues but they seem pretty powerful. I may just get a gasser, i got my 2010 F350 6.4 twin turbo for hauling and what not

^^think of these new diesels as a refinement to the older diesels both American and foreign. The most or highest mpg I've gotten was 31-32mpg @ 80mph with cruise control on. Remember to get the true benefit of the diesel motor you gotta hit the open road. Both of my diesels never liked NYC style stop and go extended traffic. As far as any mechanical issues I only had to make a not routine stop at the dealer was when the urea level was getting low. That was with emissions though. I bought a 2012 x5d new and my 2015 x5d was also purchased new but ordered the way I wanted it. I'm not keen on flying due to family size so the x5d fits the bill perfectly.

Thanks for sharing your ideas! I am getting ready to order a '15 and trying to decide which line. You are absolutely correct going with no line. I am going to do that. I will also vinyl cover the chrome and look for the same 19" wheels. Out here we need winter tires so I will keep the standard wheels for those.
Nice build!

Does the new X's diesels do better than the 13 X diesel. My highway mileage
is 18-19 maybe 20. Run 2200 RPM at 73mph. Cruise set for 150 miles. My 14 GMC 4X does better by about 3mpg. |

^^^ this is not right. With the 20" wheels my X5 returns 22-24Mpg at average 75 mph on a crappy CA diesel.
But the new diesels will definitely do better with the 8 speed tranny. |
