I guess I'll have to see the compartment with/without spare. Now that I've refused my car because it did not come as ordered, I get to do it all over again ( I'll probably wait until the 2016 MY) and most likely won't order the spare since I've accumulated over 180,000 miles between 2 E70's and never needed it. I think I'd rather have the storage.

Here's pic of spare in my f15, its almost the size of a full-size spare. I plan on ditching the Goodyear RFT for a better RFT if there's such a thing or get a regular all-season tire instead. Those GY are not good for even little snow.

I will be in the market for a 14 in 2017, (to replace the M/B GLK 350 which I leased and and not "thrilled with"
Is there room in the rear for a spare. if the car did not come with one?

Run Flats or a Spare or Both?

My 2015 X5 Diesel has Pirelli Run-Flats. Compared to my Z51 Vette's runflats, they are a marked improvement. I see no need to worry about the technology. It has been proven to my satisfaction with the Vette. The Pirellis are quiet, stick as good as you need if you like to toss the X5 around corners or in avoidance maneuvers, and do a fine job in the rain. Don't know about snow with these, as Texas doesn't see much if any here. Save your money and a lot of space and just let the Run-Flats do their job.

I guess for 99% of the time if you never venture more than "around town" Run Flats would be fine....but...since MY SUV (sorry SAV) is used for some long road trips I hate thinking that I would be on I 95 in the wilds of ?? with a tire that could not be changed...to my thinking this is just plain NUTS
yeah, I know BMW doesn't give a hoot what I think...its a huge cost saving...

Do people actually realize that "run flat" is a feature...and there are many different models of tires...some of which have RFT and some that dont?

Just deciding that all RFTs are bad- primarily becasue cr mfgs put crap cheap tires on their cars- is realy dumb. Not all RFTs are created equal. Just a fact.

Oh, RFTs can be changed...and can be repaired. I run RFTs with a spare and a jack. No problems
