They won't change the design now it's too late in the day.
If sales end up being poor, you may see it in the first facelift 3 years after launch

i don't think BMW's ever done a facelift earlier than 4 years into launch.

all cars have 7 year life cycles, first 4 looks like the day it came out, last 3 are facelifted (could me major, like 7, or minor, like z4/6/5)

as for the car when it comes out, it's going to look exactly like the concept, except that the windows will have pillars and the brake lights will be LED bulbs instead of LED tubes. and oh yea, the mirrors will be normal size.

i just don't get how people could be soooo disappointed when you're virtually looking at the SAME car, except with some tape on it.

Not true. They did X3 facelift pretty early when they got away with plastic bumpers(US only) and then the 2nd facelift with partial black bumpers. BMW is moving towards 2 facelifts in lifecycle of a model.

isn't a facelift constituted when the actual shape of the parts change?

I thought with the "first" facelift of the X3 they only painted the bumpers, didn't change the material or shape..?

Correct about first X3 facelift. Facelifts are cosmetic changes and not necessarily change of body shape. Or how BMW describes as LCI= Life Cycle Improvement. The E60 facelift did not include change of exterior body shape(other than minor improvements to bumper). The E53, E65 facelifts did include change of body shape. E60 engines have been revised twice since original release.

I like it... and then I don't... and then I do again.
These pics are encouraging... I think. Looks much better with big wheels and no roof rails. Still would like to see those pillars gone though.
