What's with the X6 haters out there?

From the second I first saw this thing online I liked it. Then after seeing it in person I loved it. Bangle-less looks, X-drive, serious hp/torque, way tighter front end than the E70, room for four and more. Now of course I won't be stupid enough to buy early in the guinea pig years. But this truck rocks. Does anyone agree?

I'm not a hater, just a "why and X6?"er. I can't say that I hate it. I just don't get it. Haven't seen one in person yet but I can't wrap my mind around the purpose of it. I have said that it is the answer to a question no one asked.

It's definitely one of those that the more you see it, the more you'll love it.

I personally love it now. Others will follow.

Overall, I have to agree with Wagner.

Although, I do have to say that the front is better looking than the X5.

I cannot see the point of the X6. I mean, okay the X5 as an SAV is pretty good. It's oversized, but it drives fairly well, has enough utility to carry around bikes/skis, and can hold 5 people in comfort. Great.

Now, the X6. You can't really carry gear around in that, not with the roof that slopes down like the front of a Prius. Plus, it has the elegance of a helicopter crash. You can carry four, but the rear passengers better not be too tall. It's supposed to be sportier than an X5, but I mean, it's still pretty dang heavy and loaded up with gadgets. So why? Why does BMW insist on spending R&D on making big, heavy trucks? Why can't they go back to roots and make a proper, small car that's nimble and exciting to drive?

Similarly, I don't see the point of the X6. I don't hate it. I think from some angles it looks pretty good. It is just that the concept is silly. The E53 was nice IMO. The E70 went in the wrong direction, heavier and larger. The X6 takes those bad habits (heavier, larger), and then takes out the utility as the kicker.

The X5 is an SUV with not as much utility as some others, so BMW had to invent a new name, SAV. Now, they have an SAV that isn't very good for activities, either, so the fix is to invent another new name, an SAC. Big fat cars just aren't sporty. It is like calling a mid seventies Eldorado a sports car because it has 2 doors.

I am not sure it is worth blaming BMW, they are just chasing a market. I think it is a commentary on society in general that something like this is perceived as progress.

Anyway, to summarize: no hate, just resigned acceptance. I hope that all who buy one enjoy them, until public opinion changes and the SUV-haters start keying them like in London. Maybe that won't happen until after the lease terms are up.
