Strange how such statements are made about the X6 being "an answer to a question that no one asked", since several of us asked exactly this question 3-4 years ago on X5 World, those of us who already owned BMW's top sporting X5 and wanted more. We're not all going to want the same thing, but it shouldn't be such a difficult choice to understand why others might prefer it.

Agree with Steve on this one.
I was definitely not enthused with the new X5 - more room than I 'need'.
Similar situation here - M3 vert for the summer and until global warming hits will still need the utility of AWD for the winter and ski trips and so forth. I like the driving position of the SU/AV and I if I can get one with more of the drivability of a car then I am sold - guess I am that niche.
Not a fan of the rear end but the driving experience will sway my decision one way ot the other not the rear end - thats what other drivers will be looking at.

+1 and +1 for Steve and Boston X5 4.4.The niche for the X6 is as big or bigger than BMW envisioned when they decided to launch the car.For exactly the same reasons Steve and Boston X5 mentioned,it is a perfect comprise for certain people who want their cake ( some utility and SUV characteristics) and eat it to (very high sporting nature and sports car looks and driving dynamics).I think BMW has created a winner! Thanks! PalBay

I like the X6 alot, it's like 1/2 race car and 1/2 SUV. The 4.4 TT engine is going to rock, I will be test driving that as soon as they get one in! I don't care if my wife doesn't like the looks, she is not driving it! Bet she will be jealous when she feels the power! Wonder if they have plans to add the 3.0 TT or the 4.4 TT to the X5?

Semi-OT...
X1: now that may be a potential replacement car for our '01 X5.
Hope they keep that price in our ballpark.

I thought they were changing the designation of the X6. I read somewhere recently that it should be refered to as a SAC.....Sports Activity Coupe. Either way, I'm still not a fan. The E53 ( 4.6is/4.8is ) is hands down the best looking high profile vehicle on the street........Phil
