Angry Us X6 Lovers Have the IQ of a "Platypus"-Read On

The X6 haters will love this piece by Arthur St.Antoine at The Asphalt Jungle at Motor Trend. If you like the X6....slug down a few extra blood pressure pills before you read on..... The overall piece is pretty hard on BMW.Thanks! PalBay http://www.motortrend.com/features/e...gle/index.html

Sounds like BMW did not pay its advertising to Motor Trend.

The author, he sounds like my Grandmother when she used to complain that she did not know how to send email because the computer was complicated and confusing. I would bet as well that the author still has "12:00" flashing on his DVD player.

As far as the X6 I think BMW hit the demographic right on. It is for people who do not need much carrying space and want a SAV that is agile, sporty and drives more like a car and less like a well...even an X5. It is for the affluent male who is successful, but needs or wants an SAV that looks and conveys those feelings. I hate to say it, but I think the X6 is BMW just giving is clients what we want. I asked for a SAV that handles like my M5, has tons of torque and looks sleek. I love the X6 for all that it is and most importantly what it is not. I had an X5, went to an M6, sold that, now have an M5 and look forward to my 50i X6.

Lets move onto maintance. My X5 was great. I did not pay for anything for 4/50k, but lets look at other vehicles. My neighbor has a Q7 and just paid $1400 for pads and rotors...did I mention he is only at 12000 miles! He says the dealer says it is normal, I say he is crazy. But lets see if the X5 goes out of warranty and the Q7 goes out, how much more would I have to spend to catch up to what the maintenance costs on the Q7 so I would be par for par when both cars reach 75k miles...I think lots.

Now lets move onto some of the comments. I like the one from the guy that traded in his X5 for an Escallade. Wow, I guess he likes bling over substance. He probably looks good rolling around on 22" wheels on 11" brakes. Guess he does not have the education to know what inertia is or centrifugal force. I hope he never has to make a panic stop and see the dynamics of 6k pound vehicles with 22" wheels and 11" brakes are like or he does not have to swerve to avoid an accident. Sounds like he made the right choice and Darwinism will prove me right.

For the others who had a BMW and got out and went to a Nissan or Brand X (no pun intended), I guess the economy is hurting some are going to a product that fits their wallet and lifestyle. I will sacrifice nothing when it comes to my family's safety and as long as I can afford the best build, best handling, most agile vehicle, I will continue to buy BMW. I can afford other more expensive manufactures, but when you add them all up on paper and in real life, none of them come close to what BMW offers in their lineup.

Now if you will excuse me, I have some blue and white koolaid to drink up and some miles to drive....Freude am Fahren ist mein BMW.

ps. If someone wants to cut and paste my response into MotorTrends site they are more than welcome. i will not register for it.

cosmos, Wonderful retort to the "Moron Trend" piece. MT really seems to have a hard on for BMW these days???? I've said this on several X6 forums..... This MT writer and alot of his brethren in the car press and I might add...a fair amount of old school car enthusiast fall into the elitist/traditionalist camp of thinking regarding performance auto's.They are all still pissed that BMW and the other "traditional" performance car companies are making SAVs,SUVs,SAC's....etc.I've got just as much of a right to drive a high performance, sporty SAV as they have a right to drive an M3 or M5.If BMW...or godforbid...Porsche can build enough SUV's and make money doing it.....have at it,cuz I can't get all my shit in an M3!!!!!!!!! I agree some of the other auto companies are catching up to Bimmer.....but who is the comp still shooting at-from the lead position ....yes Bimmer.Enough from me...I gotta grab a few BP pills!!! Thanks! PalBay

People who cannot figure out iDrive also have the IQ of a platypus. It is intuitive and easy to use, even on the autobahn.

That said, the X6 is hard to like.
