XDrive 50i and X5 4.8i fuel consumption

I have a 4.8i right now and I'm considering x6 50i for my next vehicle.

I'm looking at the EPA data and it says the x6 consumes more gas than the X5 4.8i, but BMW data seems to suggest that the Xdrive50i should have a better fuel economy than the 4.8i engine.

Could the owners of xdrive 50i model tell me what the realistic consumption is for the model?

I would really appreciate your input in advance.
Thanks a bunch.

With just under 3,000 miles I am now getting 13-13.5mpg in city with some mixed tollway driving. If I drive pretty aggresively I will get 12.8-13 but have seen close to 18 on longer hwy commutes. I think sticker of 13/18 city/hwy is pretty accurate. I may get slightly more that 13 one the car is broken in even more. I have noticed mpg getting a little better because I was getting 11.6-11.8 mpg until I hit over 2,000 miles.

Thank you for the reply. Seems like your MPG is actually better than my 4.8i city MPG. I'm getting 11-12 MPG mostly city right now.

It is funny because when I drive the wife's X5 4.8, I get 14-15mpg within the city while she gets 13mpg: basically due to my driving in DS mode and shifting at 2000 rpm.
On the long trips I have consistently gotten 23mpg driving in DS mode again.
I think you should be able to get better mileage with X50i.

One thing though, it is not a fair comparison to compare someone's urban mpg with yours because the traffic situation could be worse in one case than the other.

too funny. discussing MPG on a new car?? the depreciation is costing you WAY more than any fuel you could burn!!!

besides buying a slightly older car, the only way to win is to live in Alberta...
oh you do, damn, just buy a chevy and get it over with....

Who wants to drive and shift at 2,000 rpms all the time. That defeats the purpose of driving a performance vehicle. If you are going to do that then you should have just bought the 3.0l V6 model.

I usually drive pretty spirated and many times in a tank I will drive all the way to redline

lol. i guess the 50i does have better gas milage than the 4.8i. I mean the displacement is a bit smaller but with the twin turbos I just wasn't sure.
