This is not gospel but I believe to be correct. I was told by a BMW parts guy that the hubs on an X6 are different sizes... with one (front or rear) being smaller than the X5 so that either the front or rear wheel of the X6 will be to small to fit over the e70 hub. He stated they tried to mount a 20" OEM X6 wheel on an e70 & no worky. I spoke to another BMW guy at one point way back that said they would fit however I trust the "no worky" guy more.
I actually have both e70 & e71 wheels yet have not invested the time or muscle to lug them around to check for myself. |

^^I believe the rear is different. e.g. BMW has different part#s for style 128 wheels for X5 and X6.
X5 E70 center bore is 74mm on all wheels and X6 front wheel center bore is 74mm and rear wheel is 72.5mm(which is E53 X5 bore size). X5 style 128 10 x 21 Front - ET 40 - 36 11 6 779 375 11,5 x 21 Rear - ET 42 - 36 11 6 779 376 X6 style 128 10 x 21 Front - ET 40 - 36 11 6 771 425 11,5 x 21 Rear - ET 38 - 36 11 6 782 833 Last edited by LeMansX5; 01-28-2009 at 12:43 AM. |

The X6 214's won't fit on the e70 X5's - the hub size is smaller on the front. They are different PN's and BMW doesn't use hubcentric rings

Thanks, every searched I pulled up did not include the 214s, but I did figure they were different. Thanks for the confirmation ...

X6 wheels on X5 E53
I just put X6 Y-spoke 20" wheels on my X5 4.6is 2003 (E53).
There are a few VITAL issues. The rear X6 wheels must be bored out to fit on the X5 hub. So it fits, but why oh why does my steering wheel now vibrate so much over 80km's? After replacing bushes, changing tyres, re-balancing wheels and going on 2 long trips with a shaking wheel, wishing i owned a different car, a tyre specialist told me that the car was shaking because the hub sizes do not exactly match, so eventhough the wheel bolts on, it is not sitting exactly centered on the hub. He said you have to put hub spacers on ALL 4 wheels, to fill the gap. He put them on as he has for other X5 owners putting on X6 wheels and voila, $20 later my ride is finally perfect, the way it used to be! Note: the X6 wheels are heavier than the original E53 4.6is 20" wheels so there is a little clicking noise from the suspension which i am looking into. But i am so glad my steering shake has been resolved. |
