what made you get the X6???

I also asked the oposite question on the E70 section...

been going back and forth between new X5 or X6...(trading in my 08 X5)

love the X5 but I thought I'd get something a little different... the X6 grows on you... although the black one I saw on the highway didn't look as nice.... but other than more power what are the specific reasons you chose the X6?? and for those who chose it over the X5, why??

technically they are both similar in chassis, tech toys, and options... so why?

Above the quality, performance and technology I just loved the shape, its very ahead of its time, look at the criticism aimed at BMW when it was launched and now things are looking up for the X6, more sales and a few other makers aping its style, good move BMW

I wanted one from the first time I saw it. I did a market research thing up by the meadowlands a few years ago that asked us to compare the X6 to the Pepper, FX, RR and ML. We were already taking about the X6 here but at the event it wasn't even badged yet.

I've driven SUVs since 1990. I crossed over to BMW with a 2001 X5, followed by a 2005 and then a 2008. I love the X5s but I've been yearning for a sports car. The 6 would be my choice but until it gets xdrive, it's not a consideration. That being said, the X6 is perfect. I get the higher seating and AWD of the X5 with the agility and power of a sports car. It's only me so the 4 seats are fine, I don't have a need to seat 5.

After doing the slalom and emergency braking exercises at the PCD, there is no doubt in my mind I made the right choice. The handling is incredible. I weaved through those cones with no body roll. I couldn't have done it as fast with my E70.

People either love the X6 or hate it. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground. I like having something different. It's a head turner.

I almost forgot...me drod. I personally think black is the only color for the X6. It looks menacing.

I give it a Go for it. We can start a NYC X6 club.

You do know about the 7RR performance upgrade, right?

Why? Because I am nuts I dont think there is a tangible reason for getting an X6. Every reasonable fact about the X5 make it a superior car to the X6.

However, I am a car guy - take an X5, put in a bigger engine and more styling and I am sold. It is just a very cool car to me and that made me skip the X5. Also ... and this is getting really convoluted ... I think car making has peaked, or at least is about to, with enviromental concerns making cars less exciting - so I wanted to get in on the crazy while there is some left

Think of it like this, the X6 is to the X5 what the E63 6 series coupe is to the E60 5 series.

It is a better handling, more powerful, more sporty version of the chassis for those that don't need the 4 doors and want more fun from the platform. I personally like the E60, but love the E63. Like the E70, but love the E71. It becomes more "enthusiest" and less "practical". It is for the love of driving it!

this conversation could get alot more interesting when BMW unveils the 2011 X5 with twin turbo 6s and 8s!

put that on an M-pkg kit and you've got a serious ride!
