X6 Running Boards

I was test driving an X6 50i last week that had running boards. Given the height and stance of the car (and my height at 6 ft) felt like I had to sort of climb over them - getting ready to order and was wondering how folks who have running boards feel about them. Thanks!

I never use them. I got them for looks, not functionality. The only time I stand on them is to clean my windshield.

Understanding that they look good, does anyone find that they get in the way when getting in and out of the car?

They will often dirty your slacks when wet

Yes, it takes some getting used to in order to avoid hitting your calf.

Thanks. I tried them out at the dealer and felt I had to project myself over them to get out (I'm about 6ft). I have back issues and find getting in and out of my 330 cabrio tough and was hoping the X would be easier. I think in my case I'll need to skip the look of the boards.

Easiest to get in and out of was the 5GT..…

The X6 is easy to get in and out of. It feels a natural height, for me anyway (5'8"). It's lower than the X5 and higher than the cars. I HATE getting in and out of cars. Even my brother's 7 seems low. Try one without the running boards. Just watch your head. I whacked mine getting in and out the first few times. Ouch

Finding a dealer with enough E70/E71 inventory is going to be the trick. The Canadian dealers never got inventory of 2010 models. I guess they were holding off for the 2011s coming in April. I wanted to drive an X5 with 20" wheels and went to furthest dealer I possibly could because BMWs internal system said they had such a demo. They didn't.

Thanks for your insight, I will continue my search.
