Clock keeps resetting itself

Folks I have yet another problem with my car. This time the clock (and other things) keeps resetting, showing --:-- and a car on a lift appears on the dash. When ever I reset it and turn off the car it resets, even if the car is turned off for few sec.
Read on the net that it could be the battery, but I don't think so because car starts everytime without any problem. Even the next morning.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
When the vehicles power management system see's the battery power level get below a certain threshold it cuts off consumer loads, to ensure you have enough battery power to start the vehicle. If it see's a draw on the consumer load circuit it first cuts the loads for a second to "reset" it all and see if the draw goes away, if it doesn't then it cuts it off till you start the car.

If you drive lots of short trips the battery charge level could just be low enough to trip this every night, and charging it would get things back to normal for a while. Otherwise it could be a battery getting old and not holding a charge as well or an active problem such as a draw. May be either time for a new battery if it is 4+ years old, and OEM battery is recommended on en E70/E71 platform, installed at the dealer so they can register the battery replacement in the power module. (it adapts to the aging battery and if the new batt isn't registered it usually only lasts about half a year)

Happened to us during the winter. Had the battery checked 3 times and the diagnostic kept returning 'Unfavorable driver profile' or some-such. The service rep told us we did not do enough long drives for the battery to keep its charge, which was obviously BS since we had the car for 1.5 years before it happened and our driving habbits stayed the same for that time.

Finally, the third time we took it in, the battery failed a stresstest and they put in a new one. Fixed the problem.

I heard that BMW may have changed the type of battery used in production and that changing to the new type of battery will take a reprogram of car. Can't really tell if that is true but our car was reprogrammed in the process of getting a new battery.

Held og lykke - haaber du finder ud af hvad problemet er
