I am not familiar with the HUD system, but based on your description of multiple symptoms, one can speculate that you have a problem higher up on the "ladder" - it still could be a fuse that you did not find, or a single module responsible for those malfunctioning items... I can't imagine a single module responsible for HUD and sound from the radio, so it would fall back into fuse, wiring, or water/moisture damage in the electronics location.
Have you checked the fuses visually or using a meter? how many locations for fuses do you have and have you checked all of them? How did the problem start in the first place? was it after a heavy rain? a day on a track? a spilled drink in the cupholder? service visit to your friendly local dealer? or repair shop?..

The vehicles windshield was broken and rain might got it hud and hud and all enterntaiment sits on one line. Fiberoptic. There are 2 fuse location under right dash and rear right trunk aarea.

well, with a possible water damage all bets are off - the issue might be with multiple modules that are in the vicinity of water path... The fiber optics are not subject to corrosion but the joints and connectors may get moisture and get some deposits lodged in them (which should reduce the signal quality but still, remain operational). The modules still rely on solder joints, components and wires inside the modules, which do not like moisture, as it introduces unwanted electrical passages and as a result, can fry a component...
If there is water damage, I don't think you can get away with fuse tracing... you would need to locate the HUD module and inspect it. Also will apply to radio module... It is possible, that moisture got into the projector of the HUD system, and electricity may have found a new path, and that new path has either fried or shunted the other modules... Troubleshooting and tracing this kind of problem at a dealer or a audio shop can be cost prohibitive as the cost of labor can skyrocket - depending on your personal skill level, you may consider this troubleshooting yourself... First, I would start out with the map of the modules and their locations. Then, knowing where the damage to the windshield occured, I would start from the location of moisture penetration and try to locate and trace the path of water.inspect the wiring (metal conductor wires are still part of the car, as power travels through metal, not fiber), check the pins for corrosion... Since may parts in the car are talking to each other, a shorted or corroded pin on one module can wreck a havoc on operation of another module... how comfortable are you with digging into your dash? |

Sounds like you might know the culprit. The other thing to check is the battery of the vehicle as in the E70, a weak battery throws the electronics into chaos.

Thanx for your help. I am diggin in to dash. My radio was not powering on either so I had to get one from ebay and installed it and had it coded. So radio was fried before. Thought my amp was not working so I bought one and replaced it and same thing no sound. I tried to replace tcu too, nothing. I tried fiber optic loop all modules in the back. The only thing I havent got to is hud I want to loop that and see if sound starts working.

Sounds like your MOST bus is down, you need to get it hooked up and have codes read, until then you are just shooting in the dark.....It could literally be anything.
To get to the hud, the ip needs to be removed. pin 5 is power (30G2 switched from bdc) pin 11 is gnd, straight to chassis (not switched.) pin 1 is MOST in pin 2 is MOST out MOST pin 1 will be BLINKING red if the MOST is operational, if it is not blinking and solid red, or OFF the MOST is down. Hope this helps Last edited by sedwilkins; 07-02-2014 at 04:12 PM. |
