The ride height is calibrated electronically through the car's computer. I guess it tells each air bag how much to inflate under each ride height setting. With special software, you can go in and adjust the height of each corner. I had a fellow X5er adjust the numbers so that all three settings are 1.5" lower in the front and .75" lower in the rear. It was lowered more in the front because the stock height is higher in the front than in back, so this levels it out. I definitely recommend this, it's a great compromise in ride height and comfort. I was initially hesitant to lower it this way because I read a thread where someone did it and it was bouncy, but they had lowered it 2+ inches. Mine is not bouncy at all, and in fact handles better than before it was lowered.

and the computer doesnt fight the change? Thats great! Do all 4.8is come with 4 corner airbags?
I have a 2000 Range Rover, with airbags in all four corners that provides 4 different settings, access, highway, offroad and extended ride height. There isnt much tinkering you can do with the system since it is all integrated with the ECM. You could alter it but it haves to fall within a certain height across all 4 settings. Brits and there algorithms.
