OEM hitch doesn't seem to be the best option in terms of value because both resee and curt hitches are very reliable and easy to install. I found out that it's rated at Class 3/4 https://www.carid.com/2005-bmw-x5-tr...-48493662.html which is pretty capable. I used curt on my previous 04 F150 and it did just great, of course it was a higher class but it showed pretty good results.

Actually the OEM hitch is the best option and best value because it was designed for the vehicle.
The problem is the MFG stopped making them. No doubt the resee and curt hitches are very
reliable and easy to install But when the unicorn is found at the right price most people will gobble it first rather than other options.

I'd love to find an OEM hitch to put on my X5. Saw one on eBay not too long ago but he was asking $700-800 and it was rusted out
