WTB OEM Trailer Hitch for E53 X5

I am looking to purchase a genuine BMW towing hitch kit for an E53 X5. BMW Part #71600009711.

I cannot believe how hard these are to find, been looking for months now.

There is one on eBay now, but the guy is a ripoff. He wants $1,000 for it! After a lot of research and talking to one of our local off-road accessories dealers and speaking to someone who has first hand experience with using it, I went with the redesigned Curt hitch. It is rated at 6,000lb. and 600lb. Tongue weight, same as the OEM hitch. The new design has an support bar that is really stout and extends about 2 feet and mounts to the bottom of the frame. This makes it very rigid and gives the added benefit of an underbody protection for off road. I also had a Teshonka Prodigy V2 brake controller installed at the same time because I will be towing a 5,000lb. toy hauler travel trailer.
Taking the toy hauler out this weekend up to 6,000 ft. elevation this weekend to give it a test. I have an 06 E53 4.8is.

Hitch worked great!

10 hour round trip, 7,500ft. elevation, 6,000lbs. Towed like a dream. 4.8is with the new style Curt 600/6000 hitch, anti sway, Teshonka Prodigy P2 brake controller and and weight distribution hitch. No need for the BMW factory hitch.

Thanks for the update dlh1228! Would you be able to provide some pictures and/or part numbers for the hitch, anti-sway, and weight distribution hitch? Did you weld it to the subframe? I'd like to outfit my 4.8 with a tow hitch but not necessarily with BMW factory ($$$$).

Nice, I ended up purchasing a Reese class IV in lieu of that scammer on ebay. Hopefully I have similar results as yours! Your X5 looks great btw!

Thanks.

This is the weight distribution & sway control I have:

Curt MV Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round Bar - 10K GTW, 1K TW Curt Weight Distribution C17062

This is the hitch: It was bolt on. No welding required
