Up for sale is my 2002 BMW X5 with a rare 5 speed manual transmission. I've owned it since 2016, where I purchased it from my father-in-law, who had owned it since 2014. It's black on tan, sport package, and fairly low miles for an '02 at 142,xxx. It is a daily driver, so the mileage will gradually go up.
Maintenance wise, this truck doesn't need much. In the last year I have replaced the fuel pump, the battery, the DISA seal, VANOS seals, valve cover gasket, replaced the spark plugs and coil boots, replaced the MAF, replaced every part of the CCV (hot weather version), replace the oil filter housing gasket, replaced the coolant reservoir, replaced the LCD ribbon for the OBC, replaced all 4 window regulators (they all roll up and down!), and put new tires on. The tires are Cooper Discovere AT3's in a 265-60-r18 on OEM Style 69's, they have less than 500 miles on them. The extra tire height really helps with the super short 1st gear, and makes all the others stretch a bit more.
The truck is mostly stock. The PO installed an electric fan with a temperature switch and relay. It it adjustable, though the set screw seems to be stuck on the coldest setting. The truck comes to temp no problem. All the gaskets and seal replacements, as well as CCV was done with OEM parts with the exception of VANOS. I used Beisan VANOS seals and new metal gaskets. The MAF didn't need to be replaced, it turned out to be a vacuum leak from the DISA, so it has a brand new OEM MAF on it, as well as the original MAF included. I also have some other spare parts, like the original head unit, a spare coolant reservoir, and I'm sure I have other parts laying around. I do have paperwork documenting a clutch replacement around 100k at BMW of Midland.
As far as mods, I installed a 24in lightbar behind the bumper slots, it is wired to the foglight switch and on a relay as well. No light errors, it's plenty bright for you to see the road in front of you. Other than that, the radio, and non-OEM tire sizes, it is original. It is pre-wired for a dashcam, and by that, I mean I ran a 12v, 15ft long micro USB through the glovebox and A-pillar, along the headliner to in front of the mirror. It has a USB port on the front of the 12v adapter, so you don't lose any functionality, and it's using the port in the passenger footwell. I do have a full set of OEM floor mats, as well as an all-weather trunk mat. The spare came from a different truck, hence the different wheel. It does have the rear privacy shades on the rear doors.
Onto the bad; Cosmetically, it could use some work. All of the damage happened before I or my father-in-law owned it, so I don't really know where it came from. The hood is missing some paint and has some pitting from I guess rock chips. The front bumper has a nice scuff, that also seemed to damage the fender a little. There are a few dents and dings. Inside, some of the pillars are doing the traditional BMW peel, and the passenger door card has started to de-laminate or something, the leather is damaged and needs to be replaced. With that said, all electrical functions of the seats, including the rear recline, works. I believe the sunroof works, but I have no desire to be proven wrong and have it get stuck open. The rear rubber trim where the upper tailgate switch is came off, but it is easy enough to just press the button underneath. When I took apart the cluster to replace the LCD ribbon, I damaged the needle for the economy gauge, so it doesn't work. All other gauges work correctly, the speedo is a tiny bit off due to the taller tires, I also made the needles red while I was in there. The good news is the cluster is already correctly modified to take it apart again, should the LCD fail again.
All-in-all, this X5 is a driver, the perfect example to turn into an overlander or drive every single day. I drove it in the Great Texas Freeze, and it didn't miss a beat, even just with all seasons. The price is set at $5,500. I feel this is fair for such a rare truck, but I'm willing to negotiate. Feel free to send any questions or offers via text, you can reach me at 432-413-1 four five six.
