FS(Feeler....2004 X5 3.0

Long story, but the British gub'ment wants my X out of the country before May 21st, and while trying to fight for its stay, I thought maybe its not such a bad thing...

Anyway, its a basic '04 3.0 with ZPP. 18,000 miles, Aux Input, Chrome gauge rings, and the 132/Diamari's are a month old. If my 18" 58's are still around, Ill throw those in as well. Anyway, looking for $35,550. The "good" Private Party value on KBB is $35.885..

Uncle Sam will ship it anywhere in the US, but if its not sold in a couple weeks, Ill just ship somewhere in the SouthEast...

Well, long story short..I bought the X last May. Here all US employees on a diplomatic entry Visa get to buy select makes of cars tax free and at a discount. The US Govt will ship the vehicle back for free...

When you buy a US Spec vehicle here in the UK, you are required to get an "SVA" conversion which basically means making the lights "turn left" instead of right, and adding a rear set of fog lights. You can get it done anywhere for a few (40-50) bucks, but BMW charges almost 800 bucks to do it RIGHT. They add a "euro" light switch console, wire the rear fogs, and put a little stupid sticker on the headlights.

Enough background. When I bought the X, I didnt plan on being here another year. So the UK gov't says, if you dont plan on having it here for more than a year, you dont have to get the SVA done, but you MUST - and I mean MUST - have the car out of the country before the year is up, because the car has to go through a complete re-registration and it is a nightmare on the DVLA (think DMV) here. US Gov't pays the annual UK "road tax" charges as well, becuase the understanding is that the car will only be used in the UK for a year or less. Anyway, I LOVE it here, and decided to stay for a few more years. Unfortunately, without a letter from basically embassy officials stating my extension here was INVOLUNTARY, the X has to go. Now, I CAN get that letter with a little coersion, but I started thinking, hmm...maybe this isnt a bad thing. Without the conversion, I couldnt sell the X here, but obviously that isnt the case once it gets to the US. So there you go...

I plan on jumping into an 06 Odyssey with the workswhen I visit NC for a month in July. So hopefully, I will be able to pick it up from whatever port, sell, and get on with life. Any more info, just PM me or email me @ [email protected]rs!

Hey Bozzo,
glad to hear youre happy over there in blighty, I am about to come home after nearly 5 years here in SoCal.I am bringing home my X and will have the fun part of SVA and dvla registration later this summer.
Luckily I have been collecting UK headlights over the last year and I did the proper retro fit of the rear fogs to factory spec myself. So I am going to get one of the conversion companies to do the headlights switch over and rewire and I should be good to go.
Have you had any issues driving the LHD X5 over in the UK.

That really sucks! Maybe somebody will volunteer garage space to store your X until you get back over here. Aren't you going to be hating life driving an Odyssey?
