Or you can do "owner retainment" (which is what I did with my old E36) where they take full worth + tax/titling fees and subtract the average auction cost of that year/model totaled. Then cut you a check for the remaining.
With my old E36 with minor damage, just totaled by the low worth... They took the $4200 retail, added about $650 in tax and titling fees, then subtracted the average totaled E36 auction yield of $550 and cut me a check for $4300. And I kept the title, no salvage or total loss on it. Costed me about $2000 to fix it, so I came out $2300 ahead at that.

I got the vehicle back sans front bumper cover, lights, etc and it was incredibly hard to believe that the insurance company wrote this off. So I enquired a little and I am now in the process of rebuilding the vehicle myself. I appologize to everyone (very much) for advertising these parts when I am now going to be needing my own!
I will post some more pics of the vehicle tonight to show extent of damage in clear light.

BTW I am able to re-title but it will always be "REBUILT" I have to get it totally inspected and recertified for legal road use. This will not be a problem as the work will be done by professionals, not garage-type work.
