For example, a friend of mine is a mechanic. I guy came in with an 06 Audi A6. The car would not run at all. He ended up buying the car for WAY under market value. 20 hours of labor later (yanked motor and trans, took apart heads and rebuilt), the car ran right again. Point is, the average person cannot take the risk of it costing that much.

That ia a good point.
Too keep it simple, lets say his X WAS worth $30K. And it needs $15K worth of repairs. So asking $15K is still too high, because the new owner would have to go through the hassle of actully "fixing" it. So what is that worth. The hassle?
