I had to scour ebay junk yards and forums to piece mine together.

I've been doing a little of that as well, but haven't had any luck yet. I see the hitch in the junkyard photos but then when I call, they don't have any in stock.

How much are you saving when you piecemeal it - when all said and done....
Just saying. I threw out all my rear carrier and parts when I installed my hitch It would be a rare find for owners to keep it - to deinstall and sell the hitch ... |

It was not about saving, it was about finding it. There were none to be found. The one on ebay looks different and for 600 I did not want to deal with the possibility of it being wrong. It was a hassle getting it a few parts at a time, and the hitch was rusty so I had to have it powdercoated but it looks new so that is ok. I paid under 400 but would have happily paid more if I could have found a full kit. Instead of being snippy with the just saying perhaps ask why it was necessary to piecemeal it?

extra $200 for a complete factory kit with all the pieces already there might be worth it... as E30 said, he would have done the complete set for few dollars more if he could have found one at the time...

I'm confident I can coax a junkyard into the $300's for a kit if I find it that route. Even $200 of savings is enough for me to go used...hell, it's a 7 year old car, why put new non-wear parts on it anyway?

There are a slew of little things you need.
Frame rail supports, trailer module, wire harness BMW specific electrical connector mount, a bunch of bolts (30 bucks from bolts.com) Look at the last several pages here for my ordeal: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ation-pdf.html
