as ridiculous as this sounds, got like 1500 grit sandpaper, then did 2000 grit, and polished it.
..this was on my moms 4.6is so its the same tips. worked like a charm, got them looking brand new |
so those grit sand papers wont damage the chrome correct?

Try spraying some 'Easy Off' oven cleaner first. Spray on cold muffler and let it sit a few hours, and then wash it off.
This is a good trick to remove hardened rubber/etc. from stainless steel motorcycle exhaust mufflers. It will probably work well on your muffler tips as well. |
Easy off is REALLY BAD . Sand Paper as well....
Have you tried clay ? Or a quick agressive wipedown with a solvent . Gasoline/Kerosen which is easily available. However, just make you you rinse thoroughly. |

I guess it works differently on stainless steel than it does on the tips.:dunno: |
I use Neverdull chrome polish for my tips.

ANy chrome polish will work up but I don't think it will dissolve the carbon he's talking about...
Re: Easy Off, that stuff is caustic. Read the ingredients on it. Yes, it does wonders on SS if not porcelain enamled stuff like stovetops, but use it sparingly, wear proper protection, etc. |
i bought this stuff at pepboys. comes in a small jar and it has cotton swab in it with a certain chemical. takes everything off. its chrome polish
