2004 X5 TCU/telephone install help
I just plugged in the Fakra connnector that was already plugged into the old one. Could this have to do with BMW assist or NAV? So I am not sure , do i get an antenna and run a new cable to the tcu or do i try to find the end of the one connector that is already there. Incidentally, the connector that is in the TCU now, splices and goes to the NAV unit as well.I hope I didnt confuse anyone but help would be appreciated. Thanks |

When I retrofitted my Bluetooth ULF into my 2001 I installed the antenna in the factory location which is on top of the component stack behind the access panel at the rear on the driver's side (left). There is a threaded post on top of the metal frame and just need to place the antenna on that and secure with a nut. To connect it to the ULF, it required a short cable with FAKRA connectors on each end (purchased through BMW) to be installed and routed from the ULF to the antenna itself.

Thanks for your reply. My tcu has a black/ purple fakra connector already to it, I just don't know where it leads to. Is it possible it ends at the armrest inside because there is a fakra connector there already unconnected. If not Ithe other option is to order a cable and disconnect the connector at the tcu and hookup the antenna and tcu together.

The existing cable w/ FAKRA connector should be for the external antenna for the assist function and additionally there should be a cable from the external antenna to the console for cradle antenna connection (I don't recall if this connects through the TCU or if there is an antenna splitter somewhere). The part number for the Bluetooth antenna cable is 61120137616. Hope this helps.

I just picked up a bluetooth antenna and realized the fakra connector in the console and the antenna are both male connectioms. So the antenna doesn't go there. I ordered the cable part 61120137616 as mentioned. I wonder if this cable exists somewhere buried in the cargo area. My intention if i can't find a cable is to connect the tcu to the antenna when I receive it. This would mean I unplug the existing tcu connector I guess as i believe they both use the black connection. Unless the cable for the bluetooth antenna connects on one of the other ports on the tcu...

I believe it connects to the tan/beige designated connector and if did not already have Bluetooth, the cable from the tcu to the antenna was not present as is it just a short cable extending from the tcu to the top of the component mounting bracket.

Thanks for the reply. When I looked at my old tcu, it had a black and purple fakra connector connected at the post designated with a black square. Not sure where or what it hooks up to. Can't find a beige or cream connector for the antenna so I ordered one. Too bad it takes ten days. So does this connector go to the post designated with a cream colored square?

That is correct in that the new antenna cable should connect to the post with the cream square.

Well finally connected the new cable and antenna and I now have my phone pairing as soon as I get into the vehicle. It loads my phonebook and calls are crystal clear to me However the person on the other end hears a lot of feedback to the point they cannot understand me. Is it a setting issue or am I missing something. Im so close to getting bluetooth working so any advice would be helpful . When I try BMW assist they hear me just fine and I hear them perfectly so what gives? I tried turning off WIFI on my phone and Im not sure what else to do.

Great to hear it's up and working! The sound quality on the other end was a know issue and there is a revised mic part # that helps with this issue. The most recent version resolves a lot of the issue and is a simple and quick swap.
