Aftermarket Cradle Solution for PDAs

I am posting this for other Bluetooth PDA Phone owners who are seeking a way to free up the cup holder and ash tray and use an aftermarket PDA Phone cradle to hold and stow.

I own a Blackberry 7290 with Bluetooth however, a solution from ProClip is available for many PDAs and phones.

Pictured below is the solution I installed in my 2005 X5.

You will notice that I use the Blackberry car charger in the power port found under the glove box. I had no idea it was there until I started fooling around with the BMW in-glove-box power cable extender.

I found a clear cable clip at a local hardware store to hold the power cable in position to keep it near the ProClip base.

A side benefit as you can see in the picture is the ProClip product doubles as a way to hang a garbage bag in the passenger side foot well without being intrusive.

You will need two ProClip products to replicate this solution.

1) DEVICE HOLDER: The http://www.proclipusa.com website has a wizard to take you to the correct holder for your phone unit.

2) VEHICAL MOUNT: The phone holder attaches to a base stand. This base stand or vehical mount snaps right in without any drilling or trim modification. For an X5, you need Item No. 832843.

Drive safe and watch the road!

Nice solution, it even doubles as a bag holder.

Good solution

I went to the site and found that is would cost about $70. to use the system.

Holder and mount.

Seems like a lot of money?

Maybe.

I really wanted to have a garbage holder in the car. Hanging gargabe on the stick was sloppy.

The base can be re-used for other phone mounts should you change phones.

Thus the final $35 to keep the phone out of the ash tray or cup holders is worth it.

A lot of Money

I use a cup holder stand from Verizon, it cost about $19.00

I think that $70 is a huge difference.

But then you loose use of the cup holder.

$70 over the ownership period of the car is not a big deal, unless you lease.

Agreed, this is one of those items you appreciate over time. Also its one of the reasons we offer them with the ice>Link Plus.
