I have the button on my steering wheel of my '01, but BMW Assist hasn't been active since I've had the X. Says I'd need to remove it before I could put this in- is it as simple as finding the module and removing it?

Yep, your BMW Assist module goes in the same location the Bluetooth module will. In fact, in later cars, the BMW Assist module and Bluetooth module are one and the same.

Thanks, I'm very intrigued. Will there be a cradle to replace the factory phone cradle under the center console storage bin? Or is it just not necessary?

This will vary based on your particular vehicle. Some X5's do not have wiring to the center console for a cradle (built 03/99 to 03/01). If yours is one of those vehicles, then a cradle will not be included. If it is not, then a cradle will be included.

I made a silly mistake during filling out options for my X and ticked the proffessional telephone with the bluetooth Siemens handset instead of ticking business bluetooth. I didn't realise, I'd need another sim card (meaning another tel. number).

I need a system that will work with my Nokia 8800 via bluetooth. Is there a cradle available to charge the Nokia? How much would this cost me?

Am I wrong to assume I can use the existing bluetooth module, antena, etc and just find a way to bypass the Siemens handset?

Regards.

To be honest, because we do not have access to European specification vehicles, we are unable to provide this product for those cars and / or outline product replacements, etc. So, we are unable to assist you, though I certainly wish we could.
