Cingular w810i

Can anyone from the US confirm that this phone will work with the bluetooth/assist package on the 2006 X5??

I did a search and it appears that a couple of people in the UK have used this successfully with their X5 bluetooth systems, but I know their bluetooth systems are different, as well as their version of the phone may be differerent than the Cingular branded one.

Hey Eric,

I was at the Cingular store yesterday. The W810i is the next generation to the T630 and T637. I have the T637, which is an approved phone, and it is fully compatible. I don't see a reason why the W810i would not be.

Cingular offers 30 days return policy. I suggest you get the phone and try it for a day. If it doesn't work, just return it.

I bought yesterday the Samsung D807. Great phone, but it doesn't work with BMW ULF. It's going back today...

Good luck!

Jose

Hi. I tried the SE W810i with the BMW Assist with Bluetooth System in my USA M3. It wasn't the Cingular branded version though. It didn't work correctly. Phone book paired, but subsequent updates to the handset phone book did not update the phone book in the BMW system.

The biggest problem though was that the phone audio, once a call was placed, did not route through the BMW Bluetooth system, and instead only came through the phone. If you tried to manually "transfer" the audio to the BMW system, the phone would just lock up.

After a couple of days of trying to get it to work, I sold the handset on Ebay and got a SE Z520a ... which works fine. FYI ... I also tried a SE Z525a .. .and that exhibited the same problems as the W810i ... so very odd.

Perhaps these problems have all being fixed with the Cingular version of the W810i phone ? The best thing to do is to go into a Cingular store and test the phone with your car before buying !

According to this post on another forum, the Cingular version of this phone has a newer firmware and does work with the blutooth iDrive system in the new 3-series.

Does anyone know if this system is different (in terms of sofware and compatibility) than the BMW bluetooth/assist package in the 2006 X5??

I upgraded to the SE W810i. I was able to get the phone to pair and it successfully transferred the phone book, but it will not pair again. The Parrot BT kit in my truck works flawless. I'm going to see if I can find a newer firmware that will work better.

I love the phone so far, although it spontaneously rebooted on me once (had it for 3 days so far).

-Jeff

I have the 84.11 6978529-01 (2.12.2005) Assist/ULF combo ULF.

Is your phone a Cingular-branded one (i.e. Cingular firmware) ?

Debranded the phone and loaded the latest SE firmware for N.A. and it still doesn't work with the bimmer. Will pair when I set up a new partnership and then it won't work after I leave the car and try to reconnect. While sitting there and trying it repeatidly it even stopped recognizing my wife's razor, but the next morning her phone paired fine.

A NOTE on debranding. I used the Devinci team app with the cable the phone came with. My phone was from Cingular. It opens up functions that weren't available. One feature is the ability to use any MP3 as a ring tone, where I think you can only use Cingular purchased ring tones with the Cingular code. Also allows the flash themes, which are kinda cool.
The bluetooth quality improved in my truck with the Parrot kit. Clear as a bell (like my SE T610 was).
Bad things:
I lost some cool apps that Cingular included. The java email client for checking Yahoo!/ SBC/AOL email. The MUSICID application which is really neat. It must be free for new phone or the data plan I have because it never prompted me about paying... guess I will see when the bill comes. I even tried re-downloading this one from Cingular and I simply get an error.
If anyone know how to put selected Cingular apps back on, please let me know.
You will void the warranty through Cingular if you change the code.
