Bluetooth phonebook transfer T68i & A1000

I finally figured out how to transfer contacts from phone to car so I'll share it and hopefully fill in a few gaps for someone. I have a 2005 ULF Bluetooth system and I've done it with a Sony Ericsson t68i and a Motorola A1000. Neither will transfer automatically when paired and connected. I had to DISCONNECT, then tell the phone to transfer selected contacts by bluetooth, while the ULF system was in setup mode.

The steps:
1. Pair the phone acording to all the instructions (the manual, forums etc)

2. One you have successfully paired, turn off the ignition totally so the connection is terminated.

3. Recommence the pairing process - hold down the BT button under the console lid and switch the ignition to position 1 (accessories come on but doesn't start the engine)

4. Let go of the BT button after 3 secs and "Bluetooth Pairing" should come up on the dash display. Do not start to pair the phone again.

5. Instead, tell your phone to "send" the selected contacts using Bluetooth (check your phone manual). On the t68i it's <Phone Book / Advanced / Send All>. It will transfer the phone memory, not the SIM (I think - it certainly transferred a contact from the phone memory successfully). On the A1000 go into Contacts, select one of the Contacts folders (USIM, personal, business etc) and then <Contacts/Send this folder>. For both examples, when your phone finds the available BT devices, select BMW Bluetooth, and voila! Numbers transfer across.

7. When I then connect normally using BT, the t68 contacts come up when it's connected, and the A1000 contacts come up when it's connected!

Depending on how many contacts you have, you may find it useful to manipulate your most used numbers to come up at the start of the phone list by putting a couple of 'a's in front of the name. The list seems to display from the start of the alphabet each time you connect.

This process may work with other semi-compatible phones but I have only tried the two. The A1000 doesn't seem to appear on any of the compatability lists.

BTW I do not appear to have the voice dialling module so I can't help there... If someone thinks it comes as part of the ULF BT module, please let me know and I'll have a crack at getting it working.
