bluetooth or assist

ok after reading for an hour I am still not positive. I have an 08/04 model x5 and well do I have blutooth or asssist? in my nav menu there is a telepohone selection, but under the selection it can type in a number etc but not call it. I have bluetooth pin code and I have the antenna in teh rear as described in this forum. I do not have the center console phone thing with the button. only buttons are on the stearing wheel and in the roof.? anyone ? I have tried to allow my phone to find the car and it doesnt find it, I tried every way I could find on here and nothing?

For 2004 X5 MY your car was fitted with BMW Assist Only. No Bluetooth, despite the fact you have a BT passcode in your user guide/documentation. BMW included the passcode in error. Originally they planned to rollout the Assist with Bluetooth for the 2004 MY, but ran into problems and delays.

It was finally rolled out in 2005 MY.

You can "upgrade" your system to the Assist with Bluetooth at your own expense, or dump the Assist system, and upgrade to a Bluetooth only system. The choice is yours .....

Buy a bluetooth kit and install it yourself. I put one in my previous '04 and it worked great. No dealer recoding needed. You will have to give up the BMW Assist though unless you buy a combo unit from an '05+ model. I never used the Assist, so it was no big deal for me. There is a great write up on the X5 World home page that shows you how to do the install.

I bought my kit from eiskits.com. They will set you up w/all the necessary parts. BMW Assist is the factory emergency and concierge service that you can subscribe to. Your dealer can set it up for you if you want, but you might have to give up the option if you decide to install bluetooth. On early production '04s, you can only have one or the other.

Small correction .... All 04 vehicles can now be retrofitted with the Combo BT/Assist TCU.

I would recommend that you get a newer ULF module than is offered by EIS kits. Look into getting the 9th generation ULF module or newer. EISKIts sells ONLY the first gen ULF module.

try http://www.europeanautosource.com/ as they have the latest ULF modules and very good support

you can retrofit the assist/BT combo but the modules are $2,700! and you can NEVER get a snap in adapter for any phone even if you upgrade.

Snap in adapters are only an option with the Bluetooth/voice recognition module OR for the X5 X3 2005 and up

I am not sure why Martin is not directing you to his store ( http://bimmernav.com/ )? Martin is the BT UFL module king.

ps. I also am selling my BT, http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-items...eneration.html
I won't work with my SE P990i.
