Treo 700W
It looks like a great PDA & Phone, does anyone know if it will link with the BMW bluetooth system? http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=803423 Last edited by E61Silver; 01-04-2006 at 09:12 AM. |

Linking was impossible for me.

Plus, the included MS Voice Command software, which is great otherwise, does not work via a Bluetooth headset. The combination of not working in the vehicle and having no voice dialing via Bluetooth is a deal killer. Of course, if your instructions can help me get it to work, then maybe I'll keep it. Otherwise, I'll be back on the road with my Cingular Nokia 6682. |

Linking the Treo 700w
I have had two Treo's the first one link without two much trouble, was defective and had to return.
The second one took about ten trys in order for the Treo to see the BMW. Instructions: 1) Have BMW link code and car off (key out) 2)Clink on Bluetooth icon on Treo this will bring you to settings. 3) Make sure Turn on Bluetooth is checked and make this device discoverable is unchecked. 4) Go to devices and make new partnership scan, turn on BMW 5) Keep scaning until your BMW shows up, it may not show up at first. The BMW is discoverable for only about two mins after you start it, so you may have to turn it off and remove the key wait and then restart. Please let me know if able to link following the steps above. |

Partial Success
I was able to connect with the vehicle. However, both incoming and outgoing calls were erratic. Most often, it would connect for 30-45 seconds and then revert to the handset.
The address book did not transfer ( I'd rather it did not, with 700 contacts), but the speed dials did transfer to the vehicle. That's an improvement over my earlier experience last weekend, but the whole situation just seems too unstable. Consequently, I'm sending this Treo back. I'll stick with my Cingular Nokia 6682 for now. I think my next phone will be the Sony P990 when it comes out. A friend of mine has a p910a and except for the phone book transfer, it works perfectly with my X5. The 990 will be the next leap forward for that device and the previews look great. X54.4blue, are you able to make/receive calls reliably? And, have you been able to use your vehicle's voice command to make calls? |

Treo 700W mixed results
I had the same problems:
The phone would not always link. The link would drop mid call Never tried voice dial. Problem is that realy need the email fuction, don't know why BMW & Verizon can't make this work. I think they but are unwilling to try. |

Sorry to hear about that.

I believe the easiest, best way to get a phone to work, unfortunately, is to go GSM, with an unbranded, unlocked phone. That way, the carriers cannot tamper with the software and reduce the Bluetooth functionality in the process. The Sony p990, due out any time, will have a 2MP camera, push e-mail capability, you can connect up to 5 Bluetooth devices simultaneously, and its predecessor, the p910, as I mentioned earlier, works better than any other phone I've tested in my vehicle. I think I'll be a T-Mo customer with an unbranded p990 as soon as they come out. |

E815 Does work
The E815 does work first time every time.
If you want a verizon phone to link to the BMW its the way to go. My problem is that I want a PDA Phone. |

ok. My two cents. I waited too long for the Treo 700, and I am not going to abandon it for another phone or carrier unless it plain doesn't work. Right now MY Treo 700 works as a phone, as a pda, and the bluetooth isn't all that I would want it to be, but it works. That is, it has paired with my car ( '05 X5) and it picks up calls through the car. It does not display ANY phonebook numbers (speeddial or otherwise) but it does pick up a call when dialed on the phone once the number starts ringing. So...it isn't totally hands-free, but pretty close.
I have the V551 through Cingular, and it works flawlessly with my car's bluetooth. Addressbook, dialing...it all works as advertised. So I know what full-functionality can be. Still, I NEED the pda, and will stick with the 700. That said, I am hopeful that Verizon and BMW will hurry up and provide the added software so that BMW will list the phone (Verizon version) and we can all enjoy the full-functionality that we SHOULD have. |
