Unable to access telephone via nav display

My friend just completed bluetooth install in x5, however he is unable to pair phones or anything, the ulf's voice input system is functioning correctly.

The Telephone option is showing up on the nav display however on selecting it nothing happens.

I suspect that he needs to update the navigation system software

Any Ideas???

Thanks.

Follow the instructions in the BMW Bluetooth Installation to pair your mobile phone. Basically, turn off the ignition, hold the button (with the speaking face) on the new insert tray for at least 1 second, then turn the ignition key on while holding the button for another 2-3 seconds more. The display should show BLUETOOTH PAIRING. You will need the Bluetooth Passcode from the Bluetooth ULF unit to pair your mobile phone.

If that doesn't work, try holding the pairing button about 10 seconds before turning on the ignition key.
