Blackberry 7100t

I have a brand new Blackberry 7100t that I couldn't get to work with my brand new June 2005 X5 3.0 with on board computer. Originally it paired and the car phone rang when the 7100t rang, but I could not get the car phone to pick up the call. So I called BMW who said that they had heard about the problem but there was no fix yet from T-Mobile or RIM because the "Bluetooth system was different in the phone from what is in the car."

So I called T-Mobile and to make a long story short they finally recommended that I try updating the 7100t's Firmware from version 3.8 to 4.0 (the new phones are just beginning to be shipped with 4.0, I bought mine last week and it didn't have 4.0). T-Mobile directed me to www.tmobile.com/bbupgrade and said that I first MUST download the new Blackberry desktop manager software THEN downlaod the upgrade to version 4.0 in order for it to work correctly.

I did all this and on my initial attempt to pair with the car I got a message that said "the phone could not be paired with the BMW." Just as I was about to smash the phone, I gave it one more try by doing the following:

*FIRST DELETE THE BMW##### FROM THE PAIRED DEVICES LIST IF IT"S ALREADY ON THE 7100t BUT NOT WORKING*

Then:

1) DISABLE Bluetooth in tools on the phone and turn the phone OFF.
2) Turn OFF the car and take they key out of the ignition.
3) Put the key back in and START the BMW.
4) Turn the phone ON and ENABLE Bluetooth on the tools menu.
5) Click the trackwheel on the phone and click on add device. You should see BMW#####...click on it.
6) Enter your Passkey
7) It should pair successfully, Then TURN OFF the car for a minute or so.
8) Start the car.
and YOU"RE DONE! If you have the same experience that I did you're 7100t now works automatically with the car.

However, the address book will not upload. That's still a compatability problem that hopefully RIM or T-Mobile will fix.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

I would love to pair my 7100g with my BMW but have held off due to threads such as these. Has anyone gotten it to work completely, rings, picks up and address book tranferred?

ipac, did you remember to upgrade your Blackberry Desktop Manager and 7100t Handheld Firmware to 4.0 as I described in my initial post? If so, I'm sorry that it didn't work for you. The 7100t Bluetooth is indeed now working great in my 2005 X5. It rings on the car ringer (and similtaniously on the phone), and I can pick up and drop calls from the steering wheel. I can dial calls from the onboard computer too. However, the address book never loaded as both BMW and Blackberry/T-Mobile said that is still a compatibility problem that they are working to fix. I will say that without the address book loaded into the car's directory, it is much easier to initiate the call from the Blackberry. This is a minor inconvenience; when I scroll to a name on the Blackberry in the address book and click to call that person, without doing anthing further with the Blackberry, the BMW automatically and instantly recognizes the call as soon as I send it and begins working hands-free.

Activate Phone?

Hmmmm. Perhaps I did leave out a step that I'm not sure is necessary. Try this with the added step in all caps:

*Upgrade your Blackberry Desktop Software and 7100t firmware to version 4.0.
*Delete the BMW##### from the paired devices list if in the list of paired devices on the 7100t.

Then:

1) DISABLE Bluetooth in tools on the phone and turn the phone OFF.
2) Turn OFF the car and take they key out of the ignition.
3) Put the key back in and START the BMW.
4) PRESS MENU ON YOUR BMW AND SELECT "TELEPHONE". YOUR BMW SCREEN SHOULD SAY "ACTIVATE PHONE". IF NOT PRESS THE R/T BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL, OR SELECT THE PHONE ICON ON THE BMW SCREEN.
