Replacing BMW assist/BT module with Visteon BT module?

Is it difficult unplug Motorola 84 11 6 946 993 and replace it with the newest 7th generation Visteon Bluetooth Module: 84 10 6 969 268. I do not need the BMW assist and the Bluetooth only modules are much less expensive. Please provide me with information on how to do this.

THANK YOU,

Gisli V

Shouldn't be too difficult. See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=23 for general information and http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/As..._Bluetooth.pdf for more specifics.

Dear UCrewx5: Thank you for your reply. I think I know what I need to do. I will order a option 644 kit and install that. My only concern was if BMW had changed any of the wiring for the new BMW assist/Bluetooth combo ompaired to the old version of BMW assist only. Also the pairing seems to be done differently in the new combo box(no pairing button). I was wondering if this would have any effect on the display seen in the dashboard and and function of the MID and therfore pose problems in replacing the new combo with the regular bluetooth. If anyone has a clue, please respond.

The one issue you will need to tackle is the pairing button. Advanced Autovations (http://advancedautovations.com/e530402.html) has a limited access pairing button solution that mounts back by the ULF if you don't want to install the OEM eject box setup.

There should be no impact to your display (dashboard or MID) or ant other issues that I can think of.

Why would you want to do this? You can just use the bluetooth portion without using the BMW Assist. What BT phones does the -268 support that the -993 doesn't?

Dear Kewl x5. The reaon I want to switch is that the orignal 993 combination box does not support the newer phones like the Nokia 6230i or the Sony Ericsson T-630 with software R7A011. I can not get phonebook additions to transfer to the BMW 993 combobox in above phones. The recommended software for that phone according to my information is R3A025. That software is not available any longer here in Iceland. It is less expensive for me to upgrade the UHL Visteon Bluetooth box than the 993 combo box and I have no need for BMW assist. 268 box should solve my problems I hope.
