Angry My Bluetooth on my 06 X5 suddenly stopped working yesterday

Is this a known problem?

Are they going to stick in that crappy Gen 1 Bluetooth module.?

Any experience, recommendations?

Thanks buds,

Ed in Metuchen, NJ

Forgot to add, that you have the assist on the X5, right? If so they will put in a TCU Assist/Bluetooth combo, well at least they should.
Did you have the SES/Voice Req on the X5?

Do you have the telephone option on the navigation screen?

Problem was a simple software upgrade to the TCU. In and out in 30 mins, although I did learn that having BOTH my wife and my BLuetooth phones in the ON mode tends to confuse the TCU over time (there is a tech bulletin about this). So when I'm driving my car, my phone is Bluetooth "on", and her's is Bluetooth "off". And vice versa..It sounds like a hassle,, but it's really not, because it keeps the TCU from wanting to reload the phonebook for BOTH phones (which it apparently cant do). The good news is the voice reco quality ie, when I am speaking a phone number not in the phonebook is very much improved. So I do apologize for not pinging you, but in the end all is good.

Thanks for thinking about me !

Hello Ed,

Seems like i'm having the same problem with my 06'. Bluetooth function just stopped working completely. I can't pair my phone w/ the car nor do I hear anything when I press the Emergency/Call assist buttons on top or the voice button on the steering wheel.

I cant say for sure, but try this trick...

First, turn OFF the blue tooth on your phone.
Second, take the BATTERY out of your phone for about an hour
Third, put the battery back in your phone
Fourth, Turn Bluetooth back on (on your phone)
Fifth, Try to re-pair your phone and the car. Put the key in pos one, scroll down your phone until you see "Bluetooth", select pair new device, and see if asks for the 4 digit code (which is on the TCU if no where else in your manual - you have to remove the plastic part to the left of the spare tire to see it though)

If it says "Loading Phonebook" you're in !!!! if not, well, time to seek professional help..

Hey Ed,

Thanks for your reply. My phone is able to discover the car but it doesn't complete the pairing. It says incomplete. I no longer see a telephone option in my nav as well. Already placed a call for service to hopefully get this resolved + have the software updated.

I understand...and it might be a sw upgrade..but try what I suggested. I know your phone "finds" the car, but for some reason, the car gets confused. I almost left the car behind when they said it was ready because I still couldnt pair, then one of the techs showed me the trick, and it worked.. Would it have worked without the SW upgrade? I have no idea..

Let me know how you make out and dont leave the dealer until the phone pairs !

GL
PS. Where are you in NJ and which dealer are you going to?

I have excellent relationships with the service manager and director at Open Road BMW in Edison, NJ. I realize it's a bit of ride from Ft.Lee, but if you need a hand with a difficult dealer, I'd recommend Open Road and can put you in touch with their service mgrs - great guys !
