-114 TCU into 04, X5 retrofit question !!!!
For all of you who are on top of the Bluetooth retrofit process, I have a question and need an answer quickly..........
My 3-1-04 build X5 has NAV and Assist, I'm converting it to Bluetooth with Assist per SIB 841304. I just received my -114 TCU, installed it and am about to take it to the dealer for coding. My #1 question is, do I need a Bluetooth Antenna or is the -114 all I need??? If I need the Bluetooth antenna can someone give me a part number and $$ for it? Per other posts, I can see where the Bluetooth antenna if needed would mount. Also to help confirm wiring compatability due to the 3-1-04 build date, the original ASSIST setup has a single FAKRA antenna connection (black, female plug) going to the assist module, assumidly this is the bumper antenna, no other female FAKRA connector is present to conncect to the -114 other than this one. The only other FAKRA connector is the connector that runs up to the console for the eject box, (it mates with the bumper antenna connector). (I had an 05 330Xi as a loaner this week while the X was getting a new steering rack and when i looked at the non-nav TCU it had 3 FAKRA connectors hooked to it, hence my wiring concern) Second question, The SIB states that docking cradles are incompatable with this 04 to 05 conversion due to wire harness irregularities. I plan to use the Motorola E815 and BMW says that the 05 model has a cradle for this phone which is essentially an upgraded V710. It seems that the electrical wire portion is OK and that the problem is the antenna cable from the console. The new TCU has all male plugs and the wire from the console in the left rear quarter is male as well. it would seem logical that a new FAKRA female end could be put on this cable and it could plug onto the male connector of the -114 TCU. Am I correct, and if so, which connector on the TCU accepts the connection. I'd really appreciate some quick advice, the car is scheduled in forst thing in the morning. i want to be sure that my wiring accepts this whole thing since it's a 3-1-04 build right on the cut date |

You do need a bluetooth ant.
There is a kit for the X5 which includes the bluetooth ant., bluetooth module bracket, and bluetooth pairing button (which you DON'T need). Get the Bluetooth install kit for the X5 as well.
