Bluetooth Pass Key Needed?

Hi,

I am buying an 2008 X5 shortly. I asked for BT passkey to a salesperson, but he said passkey is no longer required, and that I could assign any 4-digit number.

I have a 2005 X5 now, and it came with the vehicle specific passkey code to pair with a phone, and I had to key in the number when phone prompted. Is this technology became history now, and can we assign any 4-digit code by ourselves with new E70?

Thanks.

you just put in a 4 digit code, and the same for the phone.
