Is the SMS transfer only for Europe? I've never seen it work in the USA. Can you or someone post some photos and explain?

I know in the states it depends on the carrier too, different providers have different Bluetooth protocol.

I know the RAZR & SLVR transfer SMS for cingular, but the same phones for sprint DO NOT support SMS.

Sprint doesn't support ANY SMS, battery tools.

SMS transfer is phone dependent, not region dependent. Some phones that correctly and fully support the BT profile can share SMS messages with the BMW Bluetooth system. It is very cool. You can read and delete SMS messages, but you can not send them from the car's screen.

Here is a post with an example SMS message in my car.
SMS is phone dependent, more than carrier dependent...

Unfortunately, I have not seen any recent phones that share SMS messages with the BMW Bluetooth system. So, this is kind of like an old, dead feature now.

Interesting. Well doesn't work on mine. Motorola phone that otherwise works perfectly with the bluetooth setup (even transfers the phonebook perfectly) and usese Cingular / AT&T.

It's not just a phone issue, not all ULF's support the SMS-function.

I believe this is true, but I do not have an accurate reference of which ULF modules began supporting SMS. I know for certain that a 4th Generation ULF (part number 84.21-6 950 089) will support SMS. Also, every higher generation ULF I tested (5th, 7th, 11th, and 12th) will also support SMS.

Interesting. I have a TCU. Not the newest one but it only a few generations off and it doesn't work with a phone and carrier that you mention in post # 8 that is known to work.

I dare to disagree...
I have tested myself a Sony Ericsson C905 - it works perfectly with sms transfer.

today/tomorrow I will test a Toshiba TG01 and it should work with both sms and emails on the bmw screen

both phones are quite recent I would say.

As was mentioned above by somebody, the Windows Mobile phones should work (if they don't, then Jetware software will probably add the missing BT profiles to the phone)
