3G iPhone Snap in Adapter Mod
Modded 3G snap in adapter to fit old style console eject box. Note console eject box still needs to be changed the same as before for the 1G phone/snap in adapter combo. Pic is from a friends e38. This adapter works a lot better than the 1G adapter in the way that is pops the phone up for removal. And yes the phone charges when in the adapter.

I have not done one yet for an e53. Just e38 and e46. But console eject box is the same for the e46, e38, e39, e53 and e84/85. So the mod is the same for all of those models. Machine down the side rails of the console eject box by about 1/16th each side, then machine down the sides of the 3G snap in adapter to fit into the console eject box tray.

According to a previous post (which you can probably find by searching on "iphone") by ECS Tuning, BMW is not bringing out an iPhone 3G compatible adapter for the E53. That doesn't mean that someone cannot make one by machining down the sides as stated above.

Craig - any chance you can make a write-up like that excellent one you made in the past that is now legendary on the net?
As far as parts go are these correct for an E53: - System Base Plate (eject box with charging facility) 84-21-6-946-063 $94.15 - Apple iPhone snap in adapter 84-10-9-182-792 $116.95 - Bumper Antenna 84-11-1-470-326 $63.75 Quote:

Will try and do up a 'how to guide' with the next mod. Part numbers -
3G Adapter 84 21 2 151 038 Console eject box 84 21 6 933 415 Bumper antenna 84 51 0 016 669 IIRC, not sure would check this one. Craig |

These are interesting part numbers and I'm a bit confused.
- The 3G adapter 84-21-2-151-038 I assume is the latest iPhone 3G adapter, and I suppose the 84-10-9-182-792 is the older regular iPhone adapter, is that right? Do you by any chance have a list of all the iPhone adapters that could be made to fit the E53? - Do you know if the iPhone 3G adapter 84-21-2-151-043 will work in the E53? - Your console eject box 84-21-6-933-415 comes up as a Euro spec only part for after 1/2003 (prior to that it was 84-21-6-924-067). Any reason why you specify that one and not the one specified for the USA which is 84-21-6-946-063 ? - The bumper antenna you specified 84-51-0-016-669 which I understand is the entire retrofit kit and retails for $213.95. A number of people have indicated that for the USA all that is needed is the one I mentioned that is 84-11-1-470-326 which retails for $63.75. What do you think? Here are the BMW parts on the BMW USA website. I'm curious as to your thoughts about the differences. BMW Accessories - 2006 X5 4.4i SAV:Phone Snap-In Adapters |

Another option you might be interested in. If you have dice fitted for the iphone a spec.dock from 2point5 is an alternative. Fits in the ashtray of the E53 & charges phone too!!
