How does he know it is not going into pairing mode? Did he try both methods I posted above for getting it into pairing mode?

We tried both methods you posted and no results. Any other ideas?

i had the same problem on my 06 X5. when you hit the R/T button all it would say was "Phonebook Empty" i could not get it to pair with my phone or anyones phone. while my car was at service i had asked my SA to have them check it out and they said it was frozen, and thats why i could not get it to pair. they could not reset it so the put in a new one for me because my X5 is still under warranty. i would have you local BMW service center check it out for you.

Any ideas?

before i sell you my tcu, go to the dealer or indy with GT1 or Ediabas, and have them delete the paired phones. phonebook empty means there is probably too many phones paired to the tcu, and cannot accept entry.

i dont think it can be reset, it just has to be replaced with a working one. they took care of it for me at service. is the car still under warranty?

Hey killcrap, I installed the TCU and its still giving me the phonebook empty message but now it does say "phone connected?" on the Telephone menu screen. You mentioned the assist portion didn't work on that TCU you sold me but when I tested it, it did work and it called up BMW assit. However, I wasn't able to hear anything they said and I don't think they could hear me either. It did send info about my location to the assist center tho. Are you sure that the BT works? Maybe its the other way around, the Assist works and the BT doesn't?

Someone off the boards mentioned to me about a button in the center console under the top lid. I checked and I don't have any button in there. Is that part of my problem?
