I Bus TCU retrofit in a K Bus car

Hi

I've searched but I can't find a definate answer. The Vehicle I have (E46 MY1999) is fitted with the 17 pin audio connector, 1 DIN navigation and steering wheel buttons which all use the K Bus. This is the "lowline" setup that was replaced with an I and K bus after 2001 with the flat pin quadlock system.

The TCU I have is a 2004 model which uses the I Bus (it says this on the label).

1) Can I connect the TCU to the K Bus? They appear to use the same protocol but with an extended command set in the I Bus.

2) Will I get the caller ID on the K Bus navigation unit? I have a MK3 GPS computer.

3) Will my K Bus wheel buttons work with the I Bus TCU?

or

4) Do I need to change to a later LCZ with an I bus/K bus gateway function?

Thanks for any assistance

1) yes. ibus and kbus are the same. Some vehicles have both because the bus gets overloaded otherwise due to the large number of devices on it.

2) Yes, but dependent on phone used

3) Yes

PS: use NavCoder to code the TCU....
