Telephone button non-functional and BT stopped pairing

I've done a little searching and haven't quite found what I'm looking for, so I'll just put it out here.

2006 X5 3.0i

We just had the MID replaced under warranty a few weeks ago. After replacement, everything worked as it should and phone paired fine. This is my wife's vehicle and she mentioned a few days ago that the phone wasn't connecting to the Bluetooth. I haven't had much time to mess with it, but when I push either the telephone symbol button or the "tel" button (same button, opposite sides), nothing at all happens. No green light, no telephone menus in the MID. I didn't think to try the steering wheel button as she was driving at the time.

I'll try the fuse pull for 10 minutes, but assuming that doesn't solve the problem, any suggestions? Sound like a new part failure of the MID or should I be looking more towards the TCU or ULF?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the TCU/ULF has disconnected from the bus. Could be wiring or a failed TCU/ULF. Fixing it will either need BMW diagnostic software or navcoder. Are you any good with computers?

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply. I haven't even gotten around to pulling the fuse yet, but I'll try that today...after I finish laying new sod in the back yard. I'm not great with computers, but I can manage and can figure out most things when I have a reason too. I do have navcoder and PAsoft, so I suppose I can at least get into the Ibus with NavCoder and see if I'm getting a response. If it ends up being a TCU problem, does that require dealership coding or can I go the used route? Of course, the warranty expired on March 28 and this problem pops up about April 5. I just convinced my wife that purchasing the extended warranty was absurd; almost funny how this has happened.
Oh well, I've managed to keep my '96 750 running without a dealership visit, so I should be able to keep the X5 in shape for a lot less than the warranty would have been.
Any specific things you suggest to look for on NavCoder or should I just be checking for a response? I haven't downloaded the latest version, so not too familiar with the recent changes, but I'll take a look at it...hopefully today.
Thanks again.

Sounds like you are on the right track with navcoder and checking the wiring.

hi, please search for my posts in Bluetooth section, I believe I have shared here my experience with the same problem and gave a solution which is simply and quick for you to try.

it was a disconnected plug in the armrest - for some reason it is not as tight as one would expect and for example if I raise/lower armrest it would disconnect some time.

if the solution I gave in the past here is not clear, I will try to clarify things for you.

regards

Another documented "fix" (somewhere on the forum) is to disconnect the BT unit, wait a bit and reconnect. Then see if it comes back onto the bus.

stygian7, were you able to figure out the problem and a solution? My bluetooth as well has stopped working. It's been working fine since I got the X (2 yrs. approx) and suddendly the buttons on the steering wheel do not work, I try pushing the tel button on the MID and also nothing. My phone (palm pre) cannot connect I'm assuming because there is no signal and something happened to TCU. I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks,

The touch screen in the main focus of the i Phone frame and where you put all central commands. The power button is up top and can reset things back to the base. Without the Home button, which is the circular button directly below the i Phone touch screen, none of these things will be useful.

pochiserna,

Give it a try with another BT phone first.
