I don't even know if I have Bluetooth, let alone get it working. Help

Hi all

Bought a Jan 2005 X5 yesterday. It came with no user guide or instructions!

So, after browsing the forum I am even more confused because I don't even know what the steering wheel buttons mean or if I even have Bluetooth in my car. Could somebody please direct me to a link/thread which details:

Where to find my Bluetooth module and what it looks like.

The layout/Description of my steering wheel buttons.

Thanks all

Get in the car, hold down the sneezing man, tun on the ignition, continue to hold the sneezing man, if ACTIVATE PHONE appears, begin your pairing sequence from the phone.

Having the sneezing man does not guarantee you have BT. Getting ACTIVATE PHONE on an early model like yours may mena your BT is a 2004 model TCU which were a bit rubbish and need to be replaced with newer units to get them working.

The sneezing man button on the steering wheel cannot initiate pairing. That can only be done with a ULF and with the pairing button on the eject box in the center console. Also, the "ACTIVATE PHONE" message means that your car is looking for a phone or is not paired to a phone. The "BLUETOOTH PAIRING" message is what you see when the car is in pairing mode, and then only if you have a ULF BT module. The TCU module will not display the PAIRING message.

Based on the model year of your car, it is more likely that you have a TCU type of telephone module than a ULF module. Though, there is no guarantee that anything is installed. The first thing you will need to do is locate the TCU or ULF module, and read the part number. If you can post the part number, then we can help you understand what you have. The TCU/ULF module is located in the side compartment of the trunk, above the CD changer, nav computer (if you have nav), and amplifier. It will be on the left side, as you stand behind the car looking forward.

Excellent advice guys

Hi again guys

So I got as far as pairing the phone with the car after inputting the BT PIN. My iPhone 4 shows that the phone IS paired with BMW 05472, although I don't know where that number came from. The top of the display in the car shows i Phone 4, so the phone and car are obviously connected.

So, I make a call from my handset but when I choose the audio source on my phone as BMW 05472 it doesn't connect to the car. I am 100% certain that this is a problem with the car and NOT the phone.

I tried looking for the BT module in the rear but couldn't make out what it is, so I have taken a photo with my iPhone and uploaded it here. I would be grateful if you guys would let me know your thoughts.

Thanks all
