Idrive/Bluetooth Intermittent Pairing, disappearing, and reappearing paired phones.
Background, 2008 X5 3.0 and still under warranty. When you get in the car and start it up, the blue tooth links up perfect. Sometimes when you get in the car, the Idrive unit shows that no phones have ever been paired. YouTube - Bluetooth idrive failures Sometimes when you get in the car, the Idrive unit will not let you turn off the bluetooth at all and will not link. You can see that I am selecting to deactive the bluetooth link but it will not let me. Nothing happens when I select the checkbox on the menu. It is selecting the menu item, but it is NOT deslecting the checkbox. I was doing this in an effort to toggle the bluetooth on and off on the idrive system to see what it would do. YouTube - Bluetooth menu not able to toggle Sometimes when you get in the car, the Idrive unit shows phones that are paired like it should and links instantly. I DID NOT ADD THE PHONES BACK. They just show back up again. YouTube - Bluetooth working p1 (part 1) YouTube - Bluetooth working p2 (part 2) repeat and rinse. YouTube - Bluetooth idrive lost phones again (sadface again) It is totally random with no pattern of it happening. I have recorded these videos to show the dealer since they have never seen or heard this and told me it's very difficult to have an idrive system replaced without documentation of events taking place. My guess is i just have an intermittent unit that boots up properly sometimes, and sometimes does not. I have even tried for 3 minutes turning the car on and off to see if i could get it to come up. I do not have the background information on how long it takes to reboot the idrive system or does it just go into standby. Anyhow, has anyone seen this, read about it, or has it happened to them? The phones randomly disappear and then randomly show back up later that day or the following day. Thanks in advance. Last edited by Kirby; 10-22-2010 at 07:10 PM. Reason: Title was a little off. |

Dealer. You either need a firmware update in your car or a new unit. The BT behaviour should not be intermittant. The list of paired phones should never get deleted.

The dealer got clearance/approval to replace the TCU today. I'll update if this fixes the issue in a few weeks. Part is a week away.

Did you get this resolved?
My 2007 335i has the EXACT same problem. Unfortunately the bumper-to-bumber warranty is up. Did you ever get this issue resolved? The failures now seem to be hapenning more and more often.
Thanks! |

They replaced the TCU bluetooth module that plugs into the I-Drive. Worked perfect since then eight months later. Good luck.
