e39 SES to BT ULF - easy upgrade !

This requires that your car has the SA620 = SES module installed. My car is a Feb.2002 e39 sedan (i.e. w/o universal phone cable installed).

Now, all you have to do is to re-pin 10 of the SES connector pins to an empty 54pin housing (got mine from AUDI p/n 4e0-972-144) and plug it into an SA644 BT ULF module (see diagram below). One additional pin (AUDI p/n 000-979-010) is needed for the pairing button. BT antenna (p/n 84506928461) and short FAKRA connector cable (p/n 84320138217) are cheapest from BMW.

Don't forget to disconnect (or remove) the old phone (mine was V50) components in booth and center armrest (unplug 2 connectors).

Use NavCoder to enable SES in ULF if neccessary.

...there you go!

Oh, AND big THX to ccfj1 for his post!

I have a 05/00 build M5 which came with a nokia phone in the center arm rest, and voice recognition. Can I use the same setup here for my car?

Thanks,
Al

If you have the SES connector like above it should work fine. Post photo and PN of your SES module and we can check.

ROKIT, I have a 02/2002 e39 with a factory fitted Motorola V50 integrated phone. I wanted to upgrade to Bluetooth, is there a way of converting the current system?
If I need a ULF, do you know where I might get one?

Sure, this is what I did, but you have to make an adaptor yourself.
This shouldn't be difficult though. You just have to cope with the fact that your car doesn't have the universal harness for ULF but the motorola one, i.e. it has only the 25pin centronics (female) plug in the trunk. I attach an excel sheet with my findings for the pin assignments (in German but most of it should be easy to figure out or translate).

The BT ULF I bought on ebay (in Germany). From (I guess) 3/2003 or so they all have SES also. Watch out not to buy a M-ULF though (MOST bus for newer cars only!). Practically it all works with the a.m. adaptor that is installed in the trunk between the original 25pin and the 54pin ULF. Additionally you will need a short FAKRA cable and the BT antenna, all as described above.

Bringing this one back from the dead... I've got the BMW Motorola flip phone built into my '02 X5, and from the part numbers it appears I have the SA632

Can I still perform this upgrade? I'm grabbed a BT ULF module so I'm hoping so...
