How can I prevent Contacts (Phonebook) from loading?

Hello,
I have an Andriod phone, and because my contact list is synced with GMail, it syncs over 3,000 contacts, most of which don't have phone numbers.

When I try to pair the phone with my X3 it just goes in circles of "Phonebook Loading".

I really don't care about loading the contacts, so, is there a way I can prevent it from loading the contacts?

thanks

Most phones have an option in the Bluetooth settings that turns off/on/selectively upload contacts. I am not familiar with Andriod, but every other smart phone I have used has some option like this.

Ditto on my Blackberry, contacts upload can be disabled.

it seems android doesn't have this feature (what the heck!?)...
i did read in some android forums, that in some android versions, the phone will ask you if you want to share the phonebook when the devices pairs/connects. other versions don't ask.

i'll have to try it out when i get home tonight... wife took the x3 this morning.
