TCU Help - it works, but kee ps giving phone not activated message

I have a TCU (P/N) 84116946993 SW ver 27, HW ver 35 and I am putting in my '03 E39 with Mark IV NAV.

I installed the unit and was able to get it to pair with my phone and work without problems, however, every now and then the TCU takes over and hangs the NAV unit with an indication that BMW Assist is not active. This also keeps the radio from working as well. This activity takes about 15 minutes for it to clear. This action happens randomly, I have not been able to determine if there is a given cycle for this.

I have tried to pull the phone module ribbon connector inside the TCU, however, no change.

Is there a solution for this issue? I did some research and there may be an issue with the firmware in this module?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Clarification, it is BMW Assist that is not active.

It does sound like a firmware bug. In the EU I'd remove the SIM card, and unplugging the CDMA module or antennas might help. Never heard of someone updating the TCU FW.

Thanks for the response.

Yea, I keep getting the BMW Assist Is Not Active Message, when this happens it totally locks out all parts of the audio system until the message clears after about 10 minutes.

Tried disconnecting the phone module from the main unit, no help.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer. Can you disable assist from the hidden menu?

I don't recall if the assist can be disabled with Navcoder, I am out of the country right now and don't have access to my regular gear.

But check into NAVCODER and see, I am sure Kiwi can provide some insight.
