BlueTooth installed but not quite complete!

Hello,

I have just finished getting the Bluetooth system installed in my X5. Was so happy to try it out...Voice Recognition works like a charm. This system is excellent and I highly reccomend it.

Anyway long story short...the dealership where I got it installed failed to install the snap in adaptor for my phone ( Motorola V600i) into the center consol. They told me no problem (we can do it) when I brought it in and then when I went to pick it up...no go. They first tried to tell me the part doesn't exsist, which is complete nonsense!! Now they are telling me that the adaptor only fits in 2003 or newer because of some wiring issue. Is this true? Is there any way to get this thing installed into my X5 (2002 4.4)?

You need the console extension wiring harness. I received mine with my retrofit kit that I got from http://advancedautovations.com and I'm not sure if you can buy just the extension cable as a separate component from the kit.

As you can see from the images in this article, it does work and I have the V600 installed in my 2001 (9/00 build date) - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=26

The X5world warehouse of Bluetooth information can be found at http://www.xoutpost.com/bluetooth.htm

Hi Jeff

I saw you project there. Nice job. Very well done. If I am able to obtain this wiring harness, is this install very difficult? How hard is it to take out the consol and get to the wires? Also, once disconnected would I have to re-"pair" my phone when reconnected?

Thanks.

Anthony

It's really not that hard, and the instructions from AA are step-by-step with good pictures to follow along. I'll send you a PM with info on how to download them.

You do not have to re-pair the phone.

Also, if you can provide to me the last 7 digits of your VIN, I can do some more checking on what you may need.

Jeff,

Any luck with that VIN info I provided you with? Been trying to get in touch with AdvancedAutovations to see about that wiring harness but they're not to quick on the email.

On another note...Are you able to speak the names from your phone's (V600) phonebook and have the VR system dial them? All of the names from my phone book come up on my display but when I say Dial "Andy" for exapmle it doesn't recognize it. Do I have to go in and store all the names and numbers seperately?

Sorry about the VIN, I completely forgot about that. I'll see what I can find out.

On the voice dial, note that the voice dialing from the phone is separate from the voice dialing from the vehicle. If you want to voice dial from the vehicle then you need to store those first. The voice commands supported by the VR module are:
Dial number
Dial name
Add name
Delete name
Play phonebook
Clear phonebook
Redial
So if you want to voice dial then you first must use the "Add Name" command to store the name/number and then you can dial it using the "Dial Name" command.

No worries. Thanks.

Regarding the Voice Command thats too bad. I was hoping there was a way that the phonebook would auto sync somehow so I wouldn't have to input all my numbers all over again...

I agree, that's a bummer that they can't share something like that. I'll let you know what I find out on the VIN.
