2003 X5 no radio sound issues

Ok so the other day my x5 started getting the intermittent sound issue now today it has stopped totally. I've searched thru the many posts on here and gone searching for the amp next to battery. I don't have 1. Next I tried looking for the unit next to the cd changer. I don't have 1. Have tried the fuse reset. Didnt work. Have tried disconnecting the battery for 30 mins. That didn't work either. My x5 is a 2003 3.0d auto. It has the bmw buisness cassette player under the cover in the front and a cd changer in the boot. No sat nav or phone. The read out on the head unit looks to be working but no sound out of the speakers.

Any one able to point me in the right direction on what to try next?
